Our Florida sojourn began at St. Pete Beach’s Post Card Inn (6300 Gulf Blvd.), coincidentally and accurately reviewed by the NYT a day after we reserved our room — a good value via Hotwire but I wouldn’t pay the usual $100 and up despite the on-the-beach location. For our first meal, we hit PCI’s on-site restaurant, Wildwood BBQ, whose better-known location is in New York City. Abita Turbodog on tap! But downhill from there: pork nachos marred by a deluge of too-sweet barbecue sauce; only average pulled pork, but preferable to bland chicken or dry, too-lean brisket. Grilled chicken salad was okay, and bacon-studded collard greens were pretty good, but monochromatic congealed mac & cheese? Yawn. Big portions, but bad quality/quantity ratio, and not inexpensive either.
