Road Trip: Capdevila’s at La Teresita (Tampa, Fla.)

Last Florida post, promise.  For this year anyway. Anchoring a sort of “Little Cuba” neighborhood, Capdevila’s at La Teresita is a local legend sort of place, and though we’re not historically big Cuban food consumers, we loved it, perfect pre-flight meal (five minutes from el aeropuerto). I tried the $6.95 puerco asada Monday special, pork was a little dry in clear yet rich broth, perfect for mopping up with the outstanding fresh buttery Cuban bread, I couldn’t stop. If I hadn’t been stuffed already I would have ordered a Cuban sandwich to go, if the bread was any indication it would have been awesome. Black beans, salad, arroz con pollo were all okay, a little underseasoned.  Tres Leches was over-frostinged but otherwise ideal moist texture, yum.  Huge portions, great efficient Cuban waiters in tuxes (sans jackets), inexpensive (outstanding value), kind of a Cuban feel despite the kind of formica tables and vinyl chairs you’d see in any coffee shop.  Good lunch, highly recommend for Tampa Airport-area meals.
